Snow Event Proceedures

Roslyn residents are requested to not park vehicles on the street to facilitate plow operations. When clearing drieways and sidewalks, do not place snow in the public roadways. Doing so creates a hazard and increases costs and efforts to keep the roads clear by DPW crews. Roslyn Village Hall may have emergency staff only to answer phones and respond to questions and complaints. Emergency calls should be directed to 911. After hours, general complaints and inquiries may be directed to the Nassau County 24 hour non-emergency hotline at 1-888-684-4274. Nassau County will contact the appropriate agencies and departments through their contact list for the Village. Roslyn DPW staff will be on duty until conclusion of the storm events. Other than emergency road clearing, general cleanup will be conducted during normal business hours.

Deed Scam Advisory

Nassau County has notified local governments that a mailing is going around urging people to obtain a certified copy of their deed. These mailings are solicitations by private companies who will charge to obtain the deed for you. The charges for this service are up to $90, which is 1,700% higher than the County fee for the same service. A Certified deed may be obtained directly from the County Clerks Office or by mail using a form available at the Roslyn Village Hall. The fee is $5 if you go in person or $10 by mail.

IRS Scam

Dear Neighbor:

I want to advise you about an ongoing identity theft email scam aimed at stealing your personal information.

Recently, identity thieves have sent fraudulent emails to individuals claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). These emails have asked the recipient for important personal information (such as social security numbers, account PIN numbers or passwords, or credit card information), or directed them to an official looking website where this information is requested. Once criminals obtain this personal information, they then use it to commit identity theft.

The IRS does not initiate taxpayer communications through email. They also do not request detailed personal information via email or ask for PIN numbers or other secret access information for a taxpayer's credit card, bank, or other financial accounts.

If you receive such an email, do not respond, click links, or download attachments. You should immediately forward it to the IRS at phishing@irs.gov. Forwarding instructions are available from the IRS website by CLICKING (below).

Sincerely,

Senator Carl L. Marcellino
